Cabinet approves Delhi Metro expansion, 13 new stations to come up in 3 years

The Cupboard has cleared the Delhi Metro Part 5A undertaking, a 16-km hall with 13 new stations to be constructed at a price of 12,015 crore over three years.

The permitted section includes three separate corridors. The longest stretch will run from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, overlaying 9.9 km, at a price of 9,570.4 crore. One other hall will join Aerocity to Airport Terminal-1, spanning 2.3 km, with an estimated expenditure of 1,419.6 crore. The third stretch will hyperlink Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj over a distance of three.9 km, costing 1,024.8 crore.

These new corridors are geared toward enhancing connectivity in high-traffic areas within the nationwide capital. They will even ease street congestion, and strengthen last-mile entry to key residential, business and transit hubs.

In the meantime, building work on the Saket G Block-Lajpat Nagar stretch of Delhi Metro Part 4 commenced earlier this month, with the Delhi Metro Rail Company (DMRC) formally launching the undertaking. The event was marked by the ground-breaking and first check piling ceremony for the elevated part of the Golden Line (Line-11) at Pushpa Bhawan close to Saket. The hall is slated to be accomplished by 2029.

Spanning 8 km, the brand new line will department off from the IGI Airport-Tughlakabad hall at Saket G Block and can function eight elevated stations. These stations will come up at Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Better Kailash-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar and Saket G Block.
