Chandigarh/Jalandhar-In a serious breakthrough amidst the continuing drive to make Punjab a protected and safe state as per instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar has busted a module backed by Babbar Khalsa Worldwide (BKI) concerned in firing incidents linked to extortion with the arrest of its two key operatives and recovered one .32 bore pistol together with magazines and eight cartridges from their possession, stated Director Basic of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav right here on Tuesday.
These arrested have been recognized as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sunny and Rawal, each residents of village Kulam in SBS Nagar.DGP stated that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused individuals had been performing on the instructions of their foreign-based handlers—Gopi Nawashehria, Jassi Kulam, and Sushant Chopra—who’re related to BKI. As per the probe, the accused allegedly fired gunshots twice on the residence of a journey agent within the Garhshankar space to extort cash, he stated.
Sharing operational particulars, he stated that in an intelligence led operation, groups from CI Jalandhar has arrested each the accused individuals linked to BKI from Jalandhar-Amritsar Freeway, close to Lidhran underbridge at Suranussi in Jalandhar and recovered weapon from their possession.
The DGP stated that additional investigation is underway to hint ahead and backward linkages and determine different members of this module. Extra arrests and recoveries are probably in coming days, he added.
On this regard, a case FIR No. 11 dated 23.02.2026 has been registered underneath sections 111 and 61 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25 and 25(1-B) (a) of the Arms Act at Police Station State Particular Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar.
