Two plane — operated by SpiceJet and Akasa — clipped wings whereas taxiing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Worldwide Airport (IGIA) on Thursday afternoon, damaging each planes, airport officers mentioned. The incident occurred round 2.15pm close to Terminal 1, when a SpiceJet flight arriving from Leh was taxiing to its parking bay and struck an Akasa plane that was stationary and getting ready for departure to Hyderabad.

The Directorate Normal of Civil Aviation (DGCA) mentioned a probe has been launched and an air visitors controller and the SpiceJet pilots have been derostered pending investigation.

An airport official mentioned there was seen injury to each plane, with a portion of the SpiceJet wing lodged within the Akasa plane.

“The Akasa flight QP-1406, heading to Hyderabad, had taxied out of the bay, whereas the SpiceJet flight SG-124 had arrived from Leh and was taxiing into the stand when the wings of the 2 plane clipped,” the official mentioned.

Responding to the incident, a SpiceJet spokesperson mentioned, “A SpiceJet B737-700 plane was concerned in a floor prevalence whereas taxiing at Delhi airport, leading to injury to its proper winglet and the left-hand horizontal stabiliser of one other plane belonging to a unique airline.” The spokesperson added that the plane has been grounded.

Akasa mentioned its Delhi-Hyderabad flight needed to return to the bay following the accident.
