Cabinet nod to 5 MHz spectrum for Railways to boost communication, signalling

After two years of deliberations, the federal government Wednesday determined to allocate 5 MHz spectrum within the 700 MHz frequency band to the Indian Railways for enhancing its communication and signalling techniques.

“It should assist enhance security of passengers on the transport community,” Union Minister Prakash Javadekar stated after a Cupboard assembly chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which cleared the proposal.

Indian Railways has envisaged to offer LTE-based cellular practice radio communication on its route. The mission will likely be accomplished within the subsequent 5 years at a price of Rs 25,000 crore, the nationwide transporter stated in an announcement.

The Railways at the moment depends on optical fibre for its communication community however with the allocation of contemporary spectrum, it is going to be ready to make use of high-speed radio on a real-time foundation.

In its assertion, the Railways stated, “It brings a strategic shift in railways’ operations and upkeep regime.”
