Jharkhand: Woman accused of witchcraft, set on fire

A 60-year-old girl was assaulted and set on fireplace after being accused of training witchcraft in Jharkhand’s Simdega district. Police stated the girl, Jhario Devi, sustained 40 per cent burn accidents and is presently present process therapy in Ranchi.

Six folks have been arrested on this connection, the police stated.

In accordance with the police, the incident occurred in Kudpaani Deepatoli village on Wednesday when Jhario Devi was attending a ceremony associated to the dying of a lady within the village.

“Quickly after the ceremony, the husband of the deceased girl, Florence Dungdung, blamed her for the dying. He began beating her, saying his spouse died as a result of Jhario Devi practised witchcraft. He additionally set her on fireplace,” stated a police officer.

The police stated they’ve arrested Dungdung and 5 others who had escaped into the forests after the incident.

Simdega Deputy Commissioner Sushant Gaurav stated: “The lady suffered 40 per cent burn accidents. She was moved to Ranchi from Simdega for additional therapy.”

A case has been registered below IPC provisions relating to try to homicide amongst others and below the Anti-Witchcraft Act.
