Press Council seeks report from UP govt on journalist killed in Lakhimpur Kheri violence

The Press Council of India Tuesday took suo motu cognisance of the demise of a journalist in the course of the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3, and a sought a report from the Uttar Pradesh authorities on the information of the case “on the earliest”.

Raman Kashyap, 30, an area journalist from Nighasan space of Lahimpur Kheri district, was killed whereas masking the farmers protests for Sadhana TV.

In an announcement, Press Council of India mentioned it was “taking suo-motu cognisance on the difficulty”, and has “directed the Authorities of Uttar Pradesh via the Chief Secretary and the Director Common of Police, Uttar Pradesh to submit a report on the information of the case on the earliest.”

Press Council of India chairman Chandramauli Kumar Prasad “expressed concern over the killing” of Kashyap.
